BUCK gets BIG! (Slick) at HOF
We are big KC baseball fans. All of our local teams are special and their combined accomplishments are outstanding. Here at Kinfolk we hold a special place in our hearts for Buck O'Neil and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. While everyone has a personal story about Buck, mine happened early in my life when baseball was still pure, honest and “Field of Dreams” like with youthful emotion and historical folklore. The gift of being around Buck and spending time with him at charity events, baseball camps and museum programs was special. If you want to know more and hear my super-fun stories about him ask me next time we are together. I’d love to talk baseball with you!
Earlier this year I spent some time illustrating Buck for our KC sports “faces” lineup of products. Our good friends at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City took notice and asked us to create some super-fan faces of Buck and Satchel for an event supporting the museum called, “The March of the Monarchs.” This event honored the 1942 Negro Leagues World Series victory with the celebration the team never received. BIG thanks to Kiona and the museum for including us!
Even BIGGER was that our friends at the museum brought Buck along to this years BIG Slick! events in Kansas City! All the A-listers, super-fans and KC natives were in attendance AND right there was Buck! We are blessed and humbled to see our work floating around all the wonderful supporters of such an awesome fundraiser.
And the BIGGEST news is that Buck O'Neil is going into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 24th! FINALLY! It would have been so awesome to see him on that stage in person. What I wouldn’t give to hear what Buck would have said that day. We will never know… but one thing remains. Baseball is blessed to have such an amazing ambassador for the game.
