JOHN BROWN

BACKSTORY:
John Brown was an American abolitionist who fought to end slavery in the United States. He first gained National attention before the American Civil War in Bleeding Kansas. There he led small groups of volunteer guerrilla fighters, known as Jayhawkers, who clashed with pro-slavery groups from Missouri. So why come to Kansas? Well, Brown learned land owners and Kansas families were completely unprepared to face attack from pro-slavery forces. Determined to protect his own family, uphold his position on human rights and equality, and to oppose the advances of slavery supporters, Brown headed west. The rest… well, is Kansas history!
